My heart is still racing, and the gig finished a little over two hours ago. The night started with the Deceptikonz coming on unannounced and working up the crowd, but half the fucking crowd were just standing there with blank looks on their faces, as if to say "who the fuck are these guys and why the fuck are they here". I was going nuts, and went absolutely crazy when they used samples from The Potion in a song - it's my favourite song at the moment (Blueberry Yum Yum is fucken awesome too). So after they'd wrapped up, P Money came on and hit the tables for a while, it was great to see 'cause I didn't see any of his solo mixing at the Big Day Out, I came in as he was wrapping up and Scribe came on. His track selection was fantastic and was like a playlist of some of my favourite hip-hop hits, which he obviously layed on as a pure crowd pleaser. Once he'd ended his solo set, Scribe came on stage and the crowd started to move a little more, but still not nearly as much as at the Big Day Out. Obviously, the people who were at Deceptikonz, P Money & Scribe at the Big Day Out were there 'cause they wanted to see them, and 95%* of tonight's crowd were there for the Beastie Boys and the Beastie Boys alone. The crowd moved a lot more for Scribe's big hits Not Many and Stand Up, but aside from that they were a pack of dull cunts. The Beastie Boys finally came on and the entire crowd went absolutely insane, which was a big relief 'cause I wasn't the only one going nuts up the front as I had been up to that point. The boys put on a spectacular performance track after track after track, goofing it up in a way they only know how and turning the crowd into a sweating dancing shouting waving beast at the drop of a hat. Being up close I took about 15 photos until my camera ran out of film, unfortunately that was just before they came out with their mini-stage for their instrumental bit, about half way into the show :(. The crowd was so much more well behaved than at the BDO, and people were hugging and shaking hands and dancing together and all aspects of the night were absolutely fantasic. I came out of it the end dieing of thirst, 'cause I had one beer when I went in and couldn't (wouldn't) leave the front of the crowd until the whole thing was over. A huge thanks must go out to the security guys who kept the front four or five rows of people going with water bottles, and particularly the guy who remembered to stop and fill my empty beer bottle ever time he went past. I think I was the only person who actually held onto their bottle, and it was a very wise decision. The moment everything ended I hit the bar and downed a few bottles of gatorade then went and bought a shirt 'cause I was totally saturated, before heading over to the pub with my mates for a debrief and beer. They were stuck about 20-25 rows back for the whole thing, even though I'd held enough room for them earlier in the night.
Now it's shower time, and I have to try to get to sleep (heart still beating hard).
*Made up statistic to emphasise the inactivity of the general audience.
