On another note, I've been progressively reading ACER's Longitudal Surveys of Australian Youth reports.
The latest report (Unmet Demand?) highlights something that somewhat irks me, as someone who has applied for the first time to enter University... The percentage of applicants that do not receive an offer? Five percent. The percentage of applicants that receive an offer but do not enrol? Five percent.
I'm going to ignore any circumstantial reasons for someone not to enrol, and say IF YOU'RE NOT GONNA ENROL DON'T FUCKEN APPLY. You're ruining it for the kid next door who wants in. That includes me. I'll burn your house down or something.

But ... the stuff that's not taken up on 1st round gets offered 2nd round, then 3rd. So it doesn't really matter, does it?

Five percent is a really small number of all those apply to university. The first time I applied to university (straight after high school) I didn't receive an offer because of a clerical error. It was pretty lame.
