*ring ring*

Me: Hey mum, I got into uni! First preference!
Mum: How's work?
etc
Me: Goodnight, take care, love you, say hi to all
Mum: Goodnight

At least dad went so far as to say 'congratulations, that's excellent news' and to wish me good luck... then went on to ask when I'll be moving home. I know it's 'cause he misses me and wants me up there, but when's he going to realise that it's a dead end town and I'm just perpetually unhappy whenever I'm there?

Edit: talk about a mood killer, I'm off to bed.

Ahhh parents, they astound you don't they? :)

I remember when I was going to TAFE after working for a few years, my mum was all "Why don't you quit and get a job?" all the way up until my final semester, than when I was telling her how I wanted to uni she was all "Why don't you get a job?". Then my dad kept telling me I should be at uni and not TAFE and that I should be focusing all my time into annoying the fuck out of the dean of the school to let me in, which could have worked but bloody hell! Just be happy that I am making my own way!

Although I have to admit, after completing VCE & TAFE basically all on my broke ass own, without anyones help, they did come to have faith in my abilities and decision making processes. :)

So hopefully the same comes about for your situation!

I feel for your dad, I think sometimes it's more painful for a father to be away from his kids than it is for a mother.

To look at it another way, it's freeing to not have expectations put on you.
